And the winner is… Shirley Johnson, a retired schoolteacher turned guerrilla gardener from North Fitzroy, Melbourne, who has transformed the empty garden beds in her street into jewelled tapestries of flowers and foliage. Shirley is also the winner of the community garden category.
Bill Mitchell in Yallingup, Western Australia, has used cacti and succulents on a grand scale to create a striking fire-retardant garden to win the large garden category. Linda Trikarso in Melbourne wins the regular-sized garden category with her pretty overhaul of a suburban block, and Joanne Muscat in South Australia has won the tiny garden section for her narrow side-garden makeover.
